Research
I researches the political, ethical, and environmental consequences of musical encounters humans and whales. I am also conducting research on the impact that fatphobia has in the careers of women and genderqueer people, and the role that capitalism has in the underrepresentation of women in Western classical music. Check out my publications here. Below are some snippets of the different research projects I am currently pursuing.
Academic Service & Leadership
In addition to my research, I actively contribute to the broader interdisciplinary community. I am currently a content editor for Environmental History Now, and regularly peer review for different journals. I am currently the website designer and manager for the Ecomusicology SEM and AMS groups.
For 2024-25 I was a visiting scholar at the Kinney Center for Interdisciplinary Studies, where I pursued dual research projects and contribute to the Renaissance of the Earth Project. I also serve as Secretary for the Ecocriticism Study Group and as Student Board Member of the Journal of Musicology Pedagogy at the American Musicological Society. Finally, I served as Music Scholar for the Women’s Studies Research Center at Brandeis University in 2024-25.
For the academic year of 2023-2024, Anna Valcour and I pioneered an interdisciplinary writing group that met every Monday for the whole day to work together, but individually, on our writing. It was a powerful experience and it fostered a great sense of community across departments, and we all had great successes, holding each other accountable, and dedicating a full day of writing a week.
My formal qualifications
I hold Masters in Musicology from Brandeis University and University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and a Master in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality from Brandeis University. Previous to my academic work, I pursued a career as a performer and I completed a Graduate Performance Diploma in Violin from Boston Conservatory at Berklee, under the guide of Marcus Placci, and a Violin Diploma from Arrigo Boito Conservatory, Parma, Italy (BM Equivalent).
Recently I also attended the Marine Bioacoustics Summer School Program SeaBASS 2024, in New Hampshire; and courses in Digital Publishing and more at the Digital Humanities Summer Institute, Victoria. In 2026, I took a course in Digital Humanities leadership in Montreal.
